Hello, and welcome to my little blog!
First, let’s do quick introductions. My name is Eric Crumrine (he/him/his), and I’m a speculative fiction writer who operates in magical realism/urban fantasy, a little high fantasy, and a touch of cyberpunk now and then. Additionally, I am purposeful in including LGBTQ+ characters in my story, in central roles.
An important note:
Throughout my site and this blog, you will see me using LGBTQ+ and the umbrella term “queer.” I know that the word queer is sometimes a contentious word within our community, and the debates of whether it is an appropriate umbrella term or not is one I’m always happy to have. However, as it is the word I use to primarily identify myself, I will be using it in this space.
What to expect from this blog
The goal of this blog is to discuss intersections of speculative fiction and LGBTQ+ identity. This will happen in a variety of ways ranging from blogs about writing different archetypes of queer characters, to talking about different works that are really pushing things forward, and everything in between. I’m going to try to hit three main types of blog posts for now, with obviously room to adjust and grow as we go.
Monthly blog posts: First, and most obvious, I will be publishing blog posts on a monthly basis, ideally at the beginning of the month so you always have something to look forward to on the first of the month! This will cover a lot of those topics I mentioned above.
Book highlights: I believe in elevating and supporting folks who are doing the work out there. Instead of doing book reviews, I want to take time to highlight a book that has done well with how it includes LGBTQ+ characters. For the most part, I will be focusing on adult speculative fiction, but YA has been crushing so expect a few of those to make their way into your feed!
Personal writing: What good is being a writer if nobody is reading what you’re doing, right? Once a month, I’ll put up something of my own, be it a short story or a piece of a project that I’m working on currently. You potentially came here to learn more about me, so let’s make that happen!
What can I do for you?
Please be sure to check out my services page, because I am also someone who can help you with your own writing! If you’re looking for a copy editor, someone to coach you through a story idea, or wanting to talk about making sure your LGBTQ+ characters are fully realized, I am here to assist.
Thanks again for coming by, and if there are things you’d like to see in the blog, send me a message! I welcome topic ideas, book recommendations, and anything else you might have found!
